Wisdom teeth that only partially emerge or come in crooked can also lead to painful crowding and disease.

As teeth removed before age 20 have less developed roots and fewer complications, the American Dental Association recommends that people between 16 and 19 have their wisdom teeth evaluated to see if they need to be removed.

Extractions

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone.

If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, your dentist will try to fix it with a filling, crown or other treatment. Sometimes, though, there’s too much damage for the tooth to be repaired.

A very loose tooth also will require extraction if it can’t be saved. In this case, the tooth needs to be extracted.

Bone Grafting

In a bone grafting procedure, the dentist will use a special bone grafting material and graft it onto your jaw bone.

A successful bone graft allows your jaw bone to be strong enough to support your dental implant.

Also for denture patients, bone grafting will help maintain the bone to an even level for dentures to fit more properly.
